Scottsdale Councilman Bob Littlefield was injured when a touch-and-go training maneuver went awry about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, a spokesmen for the airport has confirmed.
Councilman Littlefield is an experienced pilot and holds a Certified Flight Instructor Medical Certificate, according to Sarah Ferrara, Scottsdale Airport spokeswoman.
Councilman Littlefield was one of two men transported to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn after city officials reported that a small-engine aircraft went down during a touch-and-go maneuver -- typcially a training exercise for novice pilots -- in the morning hours of July 9, Ms. Ferrara confirmed.
He was conducting a flight lesson when during landing maneuver control was lost and the yoke of the aircraft was jammed into Councilman Littlefield's chest.
The airport is directly east of the Scottsdale Road and Greenway intersection.
Both Councilman Littlefield and the other occupant are listed in stable condition and are expected to recover, according to Ms. Ferrara.
As of noon, Tuesday, July 9 the runway was open, airport officials reported.
