The National Weather Service in Phoenix issued a severe thunderstorm warning until 4:45 p.m. July 14 for central Maricopa County including east Mesa, Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler and Apache Junction in north central Pinal County.
(According to a ADOT, at 4:28 p.m. four lanes of U.S. 60 were blocked in each direction due to flooding near Greenfield Road. It appears to be clear, according to this website.)
(According to a National Weather Service volunteer trained spotter at 4:04 p.m. trees were down and up to 12 inches of rain along Greenfield between Ray and Warner.)
(According to a trained spotter, at 3:50 p.m pea-sized hail and heavy rain were reported west-northwest of Gilbert.)
(At 4:42 p.m. a trained spotter reported 0.93 inches of rain measured in a half hour in West Apache Junction.)
National Weather Service meteorologists detected a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter-size hail and destructive winds in excess of 80 mph. In addition dense blowing dust may accompany this severe storm.
