Incorporated in 1920, Gilbert — named for William M. Gilbert, a homesteader — is a family-oriented town that remains one of the fastest growing communities in the nation. Gilbert¬ís population of 215,000 has doubled every five years since 1980. Its planning area encompasses more than 76 square miles in Maricopa County.

The Gilbert Independent has served the area for more than 29 years. The newspaper is distributed on the second Wednesday of the month free to 15,000 homes in the city. The newspaper provides readers with comprehensive neighborhood news about their schools, city government, citizens and sports.
