For the period of July 18-24, Mesa Fire Department units responded to 682 Emergency Medical Service calls (with 698 patients) and 236 fire-related calls, including two Dumpster fires and one grass or brush fire. There were no calls where patients were transported by medical helicopters to area hospitals.

1) Nissan blaze
A fire in a Nissan vehicle caused $4,000 in damages July 18 in the 1800 block of North Country Club Drive. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 12:23 p.m.
2) GMC fire
Smoke and fire from the steering column of a 2004 GMC Yukon spread to the interior and caused $12,500 in damages July 16 in the 3400 block of East Delta Avenue. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 1:11 p.m.
3) Vehicle fire
A fire in the cab of a vehicle was extinguished by an owner using a garden hose July 19 in the 500 block of South Windsor. The equipment-failure fire caused $8,000 in damages. Firefighter-paramedics, who were called at 2:13 p.m., checked and extinguished hot spots.
4) Plymouth fire
Arcing wires caused a fire and $4,000 in damages to a Plymouth vehicle July 21 in the 500 block of West Sunset Circle. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 10:04 a.m.
5) House fire
An exterior fire at a vacant house caused $500 in damages July 21 in the 2300 block of East Inverness. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 4:51 p.m.
6) Ford fire
A fire caused $5,000 in damages to a Ford Focus July 22 in the 700 block of North Alma School Road. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 12:16 a.m.
7) Trash box fire
A fire in a box of trash in the corner of a laundry room caused $500 in damages with minor charring to a wall July 22 in the 1700 block of East Emilita. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 3:47 p.m.
8) BBQ grill fire
A tank overheated on a barbecue grill, causing a fire and leaking a small amount of gas July 23 in the 9800 block of East Monte Avenue. The time firefighter-paramedics were called was not listed.

For the period of July 11-17, Mesa Fire Department units responded to 694 Emergency Medical Service calls (with 721 patients) and 232 fire-related calls, including one Dumpster fire and two grass or brush fires. There were no calls where patients were transported by medical helicopters to area hospitals.
1) Ford fire
A fire in a $4,000 Ford Taurus caused $3,100 in damages July 11 in the 3300 block of South Fairbrook Street. A garden hose was used to put out the fire. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 12:40 a.m.
2) Nissan blaze
A fire in the bed of a Nissan pickup truck extended to the cab and caused $7,000 in damages July 11 in the 800 block of North Forest. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 1:25 a.m.
3) Fire at school
A fire in plastic trash container caused $220 in damages July 11 at Skyline High School, 845 S. Crismon Road. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 11:32 a.m.
4) Ford fire
An engine-area fire caused $24,000 in damages July 14 to a Ford truck in the 500 block of South Lewis. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 4:27 p.m.
5) Bedroom blaze
A fire burned a small area of a bed comforter in a bedroom of a one-story apartment July 16 in the 4500 block of East Caballero Circle. It was extinguished by a home owner. Firefighter-paramedics, who were called at 3:51 a.m., checked to ensure there was no fire extension to the mattress and removed smoke from the house.
6) Grill fire
A home owner used a garden hose to put out a grill fire that caused $100 in damages to the grill and a vehicle July 16 in the 1200 block of East Third Street. Firefighter-paramedics, who were called at 6:24 p.m., extinguished the remaining fire and checked and found no extension.
7) Chevrolet fire
A fire caused $3,500 in damages July 17 to a full-size Chevrolet pickup in the 400 block of East Main Street. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 4:34 p.m.

For the period of July 4-10, Mesa Fire Department units responded to 695 Emergency Medical Service calls (with 706 patients) and 269 fire-related calls, including 10 Dumpster fires and five grass or brush fires. There were no calls where patients were transported by medical helicopters to area hospitals.
1) Chevrolet fire
An engine-area fire caused $4,000 in damages July 4 to a Chevrolet Suburban in the 1000 block of South Lewis. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 8:02 a.m.
2) Battery exploded
A battery being charged for use in a remote-controlled helicopter exploded as the owner was walking into a kitchen, causing $450 in damages to the charger and $99,900 structure July 4 in the 300 block of North 76th Place. The owner used a garden hose to put out the fire. Firefighter-paramedics, who were called at 8:05 a.m., checked the battery and removed smoke from the home.
3) Sofa blaze
An fire in an upholstered sofa caused $40,000 in fire and smoke damage July 4 in the 200 block of South 56th Street. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 8:17 p.m.
4) Kitchen fire
A fire under a sink, extinguished by a broken water line, caused $100 in damages to a $100,000 structure July 4 in the 200 block of East Second Street. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 10:01 p.m.
5) Patio fire
A fire in vegetation on a patio broke a kitchen window and caused smoke that extended to an attic of a $25,000 structure July 6 in the 6500 block of East Ivy Street. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 1:28 p.m.
6) SUV blaze
An engine-area fire in a Chevrolet SUV caused $3,300 in damages July 6 in the 1600 block of East Broadway Road. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 4:48 a.m.
7) Fire in attic
An outside fire that extended into an attic caused $2,000 in damages July 8 in the 500 block of East Hampton. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 11:40 a.m.
8) Jeep fire
A cigarette tossed into a towel inside an $8,500 Jeep caused a fire and $200 in damages July 8 in the 1200 block of South Ellsworth Road. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 1:14 p.m.
9) BBQ grill fire
A leak in an LPG tank line to a barbecue grill caused a fire and $250 in damages to the tank July 10 in the 400 block of South Sabrina. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 4:44 p.m.
10) Sign fire
Equipment failure caused arcing and $5,000 in damages to a large electrical sign at a motel July 10 in the 1300 block of West Main Street. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 11:34 p.m.

For the period of June 27-July 3, Mesa Fire Department units responded to 724 Emergency Medical Service calls (with 742 patients) and 251 fire-related calls, including seven Dumpster fires and six grass or brush fires. There were no calls where patients were transported by medical helicopters to area hospitals.
1) House fire
A fire in a vacant house slated to be demolished was reported June 30 in the 100 block of South Ashland. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 1 a.m.
2) Dodge fire
An engine-area fire caused $6,000 in damages June 20 in the 1300 block of South Power Road. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 10:36 a.m.
3) Van fire
An engine-area fire in a Ford van caused $1,700 in damages July 1 in the 1600 block of East Main Street. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 12:27 a.m.
4) Shed fire
A pine-needle fire caused $8,000 in damages to a shed and non-running vehicle July 2 in the 4200 block of East Emilita Avenue. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 7:38 p.m.

For the period of June 13-19, Mesa Fire Department units responded to 778 Emergency Medical Service calls (with 791 patients) and 283 fire-related calls. There was one call where a patient was transported by medical helicopter to an area hospital.
1) Medical injury
A girl, 8, had a medical injury June 18 in the 4600 block of South Chatham and was taken by medical helicopter to Cardon Children’s Hospital for treatment. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 5:46 p.m.
2) Apartment fire
A discarded cigarette in a plastic bucket caused a fire and $5,000 in damages June 13 to a $300,000 three-story apartment in the 100 block of South Roosevelt. The fire, which was spotted and reported by a maintenance man, started on an exterior balcony and extended to wood behind paneling. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 2:18 p.m.
3) Grass fire
A grass fire was reported June 13 in the 1500 block of East Grove Avenue. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 3:10 p.m.
4) Ford fire
A fire in a Ford pickup truck caused $11,500 in damages June 14 in the 600 block of South Dobson Road. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 4:16 a.m.
5) Alley fire
An intentionally set fire was reported in grass and on a fence in an alley June 14 in the 2200 block of West Concho Circle. The fire, which caused $4,000 in damages to the $100,000 fence, was spotted and reported by a Mesa Police Department officer driving in the area.  Firefighter-paramedics were called at 3:15 p.m.
6) Chevrolet fire
An engine-area fire caused $8,000 in damages June 14 to a Chevrolet vehicle in the 3600 block of East Omega Circle. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 7:05 p.m.
7) Dumpster fire
A fire in a Dumpster was reported June 15 in the 900 block of South Country Club Drive. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 8:14 p.m.
8) Nissan fire
A June 17 engine-area fire caused $7,000 in damages to an $8,000 2003 Nissan Altima in the 1600 block of South Harris Drive. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 1:58 a.m.
9) Dodge blaze
A fire that started at a battery box caused $7,000 in damages June 17 to a $9,000 1999 Dodge Durango in the 1100 block of South Harris Drive. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 6:46 p.m.
10) Trash burned
Firefighter-paramedics were called at 8:52 a.m. June 18 to the 6400 block of East Alder Avenue on the report of a property owner burning trash in the back yard.
11) Vehicle fire
An engine-area fire caused $7,000 in damages June 18 to a vehicle in the 1500 block of South Gilbert Road. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 10:47 a.m.
12) Fence fire
A vegetation and fence fire was reported June 18 in the 1200 block of East Third Street. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 12:35 p.m.
13) Trash fire
A fire in trash alongside a house was reported June 18 in the 1600 block of North Linda Circle. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 2:14 p.m.
14) Attic fire
Arcing wires caused a fire and $11,000 in damages June 18 to an $80,000 structure in the 1700 block of West Sixth Drive. Firefighter-paramedics, who were called at 7:13 p.m., pulled a ceiling to check for extended fire and extinguished smoldering areas.
15) Grass fire
A grass fire was reported June 18 in the 400 block of East Ninth Avenue. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 8:30 p.m.
16) Wastebasket fire
A fire in a bathroom wastebasket activated sprinklers that contained the fire June 19 in the 1400 block of South Lindsay Road. A male victim was treated for spoke inhalation. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 6:44 a.m.
17) Trailer fire
A hot lawn mower placed on grass in a trailer caused a fire June 19 in the 1600 block of South Stapley. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 1:19 p.m. about the trailer on fire going down a road.
18) Ford fire
An engine area fire spread to a dash and caused $3,000 in damages June 19 to a 1991 Ford Explorer in the 1200 block of East Southern Avenue. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 4:53 p.m.

For the period of June 6-12, Mesa Fire Department units responded to 714 Emergency Medical Service calls (with 735 patients) and 291 fire-related calls. There were three calls where patients were transported by medical helicopters to area hospitals.
1) Motorcycle accident
A man, 61, injured in a June 7 motorcycle/vehicle accident in the 1100 block of North Power Road, was taken by medical helicopter to Scottsdale Medical Center Osborn for treatment. He was not wearing a helmet. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 3:59 p.m.
2) Fall injury
A man. 52, who fell 10 feet and was injured June 8 in the 6300 block of East Superstition Boulevard, was taken by medical helicopter to Scottsdale Medical Center Osborn for treatment. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 7:55 a.m.
3) Vehicle accident
A woman, 67, who was injured in a June 12 vehicle accident in the 2700 block of North Usery Pass Road, was taken by ambulance to Banner Baywood Medical Center for treatment and a man, 82, was taken by medical helicopter to Scottsdale Medical Center Osborn for treatment. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 6:16 p.m.
4) Alley fire
A grass fire in an alley was reported June 7 in the 2200 block of East Fairfield Street. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 1:15 a.m.
5) Trash fire
A fire in trash along railroad tracks was reported June 7 in the 0 block of East 10th Avenue. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 1:31 a.m.
6) Dumpster fire
A fire in a Dumpster within 10 feet of a structure was reported June 7 in the 1800 block of South Power Road. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 12:32 p.m.
7) Brush fire
A trash and brush fire was reported June 8 in the 0 block of South Cheshire. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 6:01 p.m.
8) Bed blaze
Pieces of a bunk bed stored on a patio caught fire and a mattress burned June 9 in the 500 block of North May. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 2:01 a.m.
9) 9th hole fire
A small fire was reported June 9 in a restroom at the ninth hole in the 2500 block of North Ebony. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 5:12 a.m.
10) Dumpster blaze
Trash on fire in a Dumpster at an apartment complex was reported June 9 in the 8900 block of East Guadalupe Road. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 5:26 p.m.
11) Dumpster fire
Foam and water was used to put out a fire in a Dumpster June 9 in the 600 block of South Dobson Road. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 10:27 p.m.
12) Honda fire
A fire in a Honda Element caused $13,000 in damages June 10 in the 500 block of North may. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 1:55 a.m.
13) Grass fire
A trash and grass fire on vacant property was reported June 10 in the 400 block of South Horne. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 5:35 a.m.
14) Dumpster fire
A trash fire in a Dumpster was reported June 10 in the 3600 block of East Southern Avenue. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 5:16 p.m.
15) Dodge blaze
A June 10 engine-area fire in a $5,000 2002 Dodge Durango caused $2,000 in  the 8800 block of East Broadway Road. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 6:59 p.m.
16) Dumpster fire
A fire in a Dumpster was reported June 11 in the 3600 block of East Southern Avenue. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 4:34 a.m.
17) Trailer blaze
A fire in the exterior compartment of a $27,100 toy hauler trailer caused $7,100 in damages June 11 in the 500 block of South Mesa Drive. Firefighter-paramedics, who were called at 9:52 a.m., removed siding to locate a hidden fire caused by failure of electrical equipment.
18) Dodge blaze
Equipment failure caused an engine-area fire and $2,200 in damages June 11 to a $2,800 1991 Dodge Dakota in the 6800 block of East Main Street. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 10:56 a.m.
19) Corvette fire
A fire in a Corvette was reported June 11 in the 2400 block of North Kachina. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 7:50 p.m.
20) Sofa blaze
A sofa sitting on the curb of a street was reported on fire June 11 in the 30 block of North Guthrie. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 8:52 p.m.
21) Dumpster fire
A fire was reported June 12 in a Dumpster in a school parking lot in the 2500 block of North 32nd Street. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 3:01 a.m.
22) Apartment fire
A fire caused $1,000 in damages to a $500,000 three-story apartment June 12 in the 8900 block of East Guadalupe Road. The fire in cardboard on a patio was intentionally set with a smoke bomb by a young boy. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 12:07 p.m.
23) Dodge fire
An engine-area fire caused $2,000 in damages June 12 to a 1994 Dodge Voyager in the 8800 block of East Baseline Road. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 5:30 p.m.
24) Apartment fire
A fire caused by someone putting out a cigarette in the soil of a potted plant caused $1,000 in damages to a $500,000 three-story apartment June 12 in the 8900 block of East Guadalupe. The fire was confined to a patio with the activation of a sprinkler system installed in the building. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 6:06 p.m.

For the period of May 30-June 5, Mesa Fire Department units responded to 784 Emergency Medical Service calls (with 796 patients) and 272 fire-related calls. There was one call where a patient was taken by a medical helicopter to an area hospital.
1) Fall injury
A man, 20, who fell May 31 in the 10200 block of East Irwin Avenue, was taken by medical helicopter to Scottsdale Medical Center Osborn for treatment. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 7:39 p.m.
2) Vehicle fire
A May 30 fire under the dashboard of a vehicle in the 1600 block of South Ellsworth Road was put out by a passerby with a fire extinguisher. The fire caused $500 in damages to a $10,000 vehicle. Firefighter-paramedics, who were called at 11:35 a.m., checked for hot spots and disconnected the battery.
3) Dumpster fire
A May 30 fire caused $250 in damages to a 40-yard Dumpster in the 4800 block of East Falcon Drive. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 12:46 p.m.
4) Dodge fire
An engine fire in a Dodge Neon May 30 in the 200 block of North Greenfield Road was out on the arrival of direfighter-paramedics, who were called at 6:25 p.m.
5) Chevrolet fire
Equipment failure caused an engine-area fire and $3,000 in damages in a Chevrolet vehicle May 31 in the 4300 block of East Brown Road. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 1:28 p.m.
6) Patio fire
Firefighter-paramedics were called at 3:58 p.m. May 31 to put out a trash can fire on an unattached patio in the 2300 block of South Edgewater. The fire was in a trash bag with discarded rags that had been used to apply boiled linseed oil and caused $250 in damages.
7) Couch fire
A couch fire June 1 in the 100 block of South Duran burned it down to the frame. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 12:38 a.m.
8) Oven smoke
Pots and a pan in an oven produced pungent smoke when the oven was turned on June 1 in the 5200 block of East Main Street. Firefighter-paramedics, who were called at 10:14 a.m., used a fan to remove smoke.
9) Can fire
A lighted cigarette in a Dumpster caused smoke in a building June 1 in the 1200 block of West Broadway. Business employees applied water to the container to put out the fire. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 1:30 p.m.
10) Chevrolet fire
A fire in the passenger area of a Chevrolet vehicle caused $12,500 in damages June 2 in the 11500 block of East Quicksilver Avenue. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 3:32 a.m.
11) Hyundai fire
A fire in the engine area of a Hyundai vehicle caused $3,000 in damages June 3 in the 600 block of South Greenfield Road. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 10:22 a.m.
12) House fire
Hot ashes on a back patio caused a fire and extended to the interior and second story of a house, causing $130,000 in damages June 3 in the 1600 block of North Fraser Drive. Firefighter-paramedics, who were called at 4:20 p.m., extinguished the fire.
13) Burned food
A cooking fire burned food on a stove June 3 in the 900 block of South Longmore. Firefighter-paramedics, who were called at 7:31 p.m., removed smoke with fans.
14) Dumpster fire
A fire damaged a Dumpster June 4 in the 800 block of South Longmore. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 2 a.m.
15) Grill fire
A propane leak caused a fire on a grill June 5 in the 2200 block of East Forge Avenue. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 4:42 p.m.

Mesa fire and medical calls, April 11-May 1, 2012

For the period of April 26-May 1, Mesa Fire Department units responded to 777 Emergency Medical Service calls (with 801 patients) and 212 fire-related calls. There were two calls where patients were transported by medical helicopters to area hospitals.
Electrical arcing
Electrical arcing caused a fire in a $2,000 junction box and $1,000 in damages April 26 at a two-story, 2,526-square-feet home the 6000 block of East Inglewood Street. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 11:35 a.m.
Cooking area fire
Food on a stove burned and charred cabinets at a two-story, 800-square-feet home, causing $6,000 in damages April 28 in the 2200 block of West Linder Avenue. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 11:55 a.m.
Patio fire
Support members to a patio and wooden lattice caught fire and caused $400 in damages to a $200,000 structure April 28 in the 3000 block of North Racine. It was put out with a garden hose used by a neighbor and the firefighter-paramedics who were called at 12:08 p.m.
Kawasaki fire
A fire caused $3,000 in damages April 29 to a Kawasaki motorcycle in the 500 block of East Hilton Avenue. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 5:16 p.m.
Ford fire
A fire caused $2,750 in damages to a Ford pickup April 30 in the 2200 block of East Main Street. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 5:03 a.m.
Exterior fire
A fire caused $2,000 in damages to the exterior of a $70,400 structure April 30 in the 700 block of West Inglewood Street. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 12:35 p.m.
Dodge fire
A fire in a Dodge mini van caused $7,000 in damages April 30 in the 10000 block of East Lockwood. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 3:24 p.m.

Fence fire
A fire damaged a fence and carport and caused $1,000 in damages April 18 in the 7600 block of East Impala. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 3:29 p.m.
$60K vacant home fire
A fire that started in the bedroom area of a 300-square-feet vacant mobile home caused $60,000 in damages April 20 in the 8700 block of East University. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 5:17 p.m.
Apartment fire
A fire in a closet of a $110,000 second-story apartment unit caused $65,000 in damages April 21 in the 200 block of West Brown Road. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 3:25 p.m.

An engine-area fire in a Porsche caused $14,000 in damages April 22 in the 2400 block of North Gilbert Road. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 9:53 p.m.
Storage area fire
Electrical wiring arced and caused $87,000 in damages April 22 to a vehicle storage area in the 4900 block of East Covina. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 10:05 p.m.
Cooking fire
A cooking fire in a $700,000 three-story apartment building caused $260,000 in damages April 24 in the 800 block of South Alma School Road. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 1:54 a.m.
Bedroom fire
Equipment failure of a wall-mounted air-conditioning unit caused $16,000 in damages April 24 in the 1500 block of East Main St. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 7:16 a.m.
Garage area fire

A fire caused $160,000 in damages to a BMW April 14 in the 11200 block of East Sonrisa Avenue. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 5:34 p.m.

For the period of April 4-10, Mesa Fire Department units responded to 772 Emergency Medical Service calls (with 787 patients) and 253 fire-related calls. There were no calls where patients were transported by medical helicopters to area hospitals.
Chevrolet fire
An engine-area fire in a $1,000 Chevrolet vehicle caused $100 in damages April 5 in the 1000 block of South Harris Drive. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 5:19 p.m.
Storage shed fire
A fire in a storage shed caused $1,000 in damages April 7 in the 1700 block of East Eighth Avenue. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 5:50 p.m.
Vehicle fire
A vehicle fire caused $9,000 in damages April 10 in the 500 block of North Robson. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 2:42 a.m.

An engine-area fire in a Chevrolet vehicle March 28 in the 7200 block of East McKellips Road caused $350 in damages. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 4 a.m.
Welding-torch fire
A welding torch caused a fire in a wall and $500 in damages March 30 to a $62,000 structure in the 200 block of South Robson. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 10:30 a.m.
Silverado fire
Equipment failure caused a fire and $1,000 in damages March 30 to a $2,000 1991 Chevrolet Silverado in the 6300 block of East Southern Avenue. The owner put it out with a fire extinguisher. Firefighter-paramedics, who were called at 3:55 p.m., checked for hot spots.
Vehicle fire
Equipment failure caused a fire March 30 to a vehicle in the 2900 block of South Ellsworth Road The owner extinguished the fire. Firefighter-paramedics, who were called at 6:22 p.m., checked for hot spots.
Ford fire
A fire in a 1991 Ford Ranger caused $1,000 in damages March 31 in the 900 block of East Ninth Drive. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 1:01 a.m.
Home fire
A fire in a cooking area of a $101,000 home caused $5,000 in damages to a wall behind a sink March 31 in the 5400 block of East Dolphin Circle. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 1:57 p.m.
Strip-mall blaze
Several units were damaged in an April 1 fire at a strip mall in the 6300 block of East Main Street. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 12:23 p.m.
Buick blaze
Water spilled on a front passenger seat warmer of a Buick vehicle caused a fire and $500 in damages April 3 in the 1200 block of North Power Road. It was put out with a bottle of water. Firefighter-paramedics, who were called at 10:06 p.m., checked for fire extension and hot spots.

Mesa fire calls, Feb. 15-March 27, 2012

For the period of March 21-27, Mesa Fire Department units responded to 813 Emergency Medical Service calls (with 826 patients) and 276 fire-related calls. There were no calls where patients were transported by medical helicopters to area hospitals.
Engine fire
A March 21 fire in the engine of a GMC vehicle caused $3,000 in damages in the 6300 block of East Preston Street. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 12:09 p.m.
Attic fire
Equipment failure caused a March 21 fire and $1,000 in damages in the attic of a $125,000 two-story, 1,000-square-feet home in the 8700 block of East Los Lagos Avenue. Firefighter-paramedics, who were called at 9:54 p.m., removed burning insulation.
Chevrolet fire
Equipment failure caused a fire and $15,100 in damages to a vehicle involved in an accident March 23 in the 2400 block of South 101 (Price Freeway). Firefighter-paramedics were called at 5:26 p.m.
Attic fire
An attic fire caused $180,000 in damages March 25 to a structure in the 600 block of South Portland. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 1:08 a.m.


A March 18 fire in the attic of a $32,000 one-story, 1,500-square-feet home caused $12,000 in damages in the 100 block of East McKellips Road. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 5:26 p.m.
School bus fire
An engine-area fire caused $20,000 in damages March 19 to a $35,000 GMC school bus in the 6800 block of East Hampton Avenue. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 7:20 a.m.


An engine-area fire caused $2,010 in damages March 9 to a Dodge vehicle in the 1100 block of South Power Road. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 10:49 a.m.
Pontiac blaze
A March 10 engine-area fire in a Pontiac vehicle caused $4,000 in damages in the 500 block of North May. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 6:24 a.m.


Dirt-bike accident
A boy, 15, injured in a March 1 dirt-bike accident in the 8300 block of East Elliot Road, was taken by medical helicopter to Maricopa medical Center for treatment. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 5:38 p.m.
Kitchen fire
Items on a kitchen table in a kitchen that caught fire were removed and extinguished March 6 in the 600 block of North Center Street. There was $2,200 in smoke damage to a wall and ceiling. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 4:09 p.m.


A pan of biscuits burned, causing $2,000 in smoke damages Feb. 22 in the 900 block of South Dobson Road. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 5:17 p.m.

An engine-area fire caused $6,000 in damages Feb. 11 to a $7,000 vehicle in the 4300 block of East 202 (Red Mountain Freeway). Firefighter-paramedics were called at 5:26 p.m.
Dodge blaze
A bystander used an extinguisher Feb. 23 to put out an engine-area fire that caused $4,000 in damages to a Dodge Intrepid in the 300 block of East Broadway Road. Firefighter-paramedics, who were called at 8:32 a.m., checked for and extinguished hot spots.
Candle causes fire
A candle caused a fire and $1,010 in damages to a structure Feb. 25 in the 300 block of East Vine Circle. A man. 40, was treated for smoke inhalation. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 11:57 a.m.
Arcing lines
Wind caused lines to arc and set a fire to vegetation on the roof and smoke in the interior of a $40,000 structure in the 4000 block of East McKellips Road. It caused $1,000 in damages. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 1:51 p.m.


Structure fire
A Feb. 15 fire in a $151,000 1,200-square-foot vacant building caused $5,000 in damages in the 1700 block of South 80th Place. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 12:12 a.m.
Garage fire
A homeowner used a garden hose to extinguish a fire that started in a garage area and caused $20,000 in damages to a $525,000 garage home in the 7700 block of East Russell Circle.
Firefighter-paramedics, who were called at 8:29 a.m., continued to extinguish the fire.
Chevrolet blaze
A fire in a $2,000 Chevrolet pickup caused $1,000 in damages Feb. 18 in the 1900 block of South 24th Street. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 8:31 p.m.
Toyota fire
An engine-area fire Feb. 20 in a Toyota vehicle in the 800 block of South Longmore caused $5,000 in damages. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 1:30 a.m.
Oven fire
Five people were treated for smoke inhalation following a Feb. 20 fire in an oven that caused $500 in damages to a $50,000 unit at an apartment building in the 500 block of South LeSueur. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 1:40 a.m.
Honda fire
A Feb. 20 engine-area fire in a Honda vehicle in the 1100 block of South Dobson Road caused $1,000 in damages. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 5:18 p.m.
Garage area fire
A fire that started in a garage area and extended to a second-floor window of a 3,500-square-feet structure caused $2,000 in damages Feb. 21 in the 2500 block of South Keene.
Firefighter-paramedics were called at 1:55 p.m.
Chevrolet fire
A fire caused $4,000 in damages to a Chevrolet Malibu Feb. 21 in the 200 block of South MacDonald.
